Job Description

ASU – the largest state university and also recognized for the last 6 years in a row by US News and World Report as the most innovative university – is seeking an energized, entrepreneurial GIS Product Manager to help lead the direction of ASU’s Map and GIS products and platforms.

Product Managers in the ASU University Technology Office:

Lead the creation and improvement of well-designed product solutions that provide value to students, faculty, and staff.
Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders and cross-functional product teams to solve problems and achieve objectives that result in changes to product capabilities.
Distill and communicate customer and stakeholder needs, sets priority, and measures impact.
Define, communicate, and manage product vision, strategy, and roadmap.

Salary Range

$76,153 - $87,550 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

Independently manages the following for one or more products:

Focus on providing value to students, faculty, and staff through the creation of product solutions that solve problems and help them achieve their goals.
Define and track product goals and KPIs.
Align product goals and improvements with organization goals and mission.
Define, communicate, and manage product vision, strategy, and roadmap.
Determine and facilitate product governance.
Continuously expand understanding of customers, stakeholders, and the organization.
Identify opportunities for improvement and innovation using quantitative and qualitative insights.
Collaboratively lead cross-functional product team(s) to discover and deliver well-designed product solutions.
Actively listen to customers and represent them in product decisions.
Groom and prioritize the backlog.
Define and verify epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, tasks, personas, and other requirements. Plan and prioritize each product release.
Communicate product status and changes to customers, users, stakeholders, and leadership.
Identify the appropriate stakeholders to collaborate and communicate with.
Be the main point of contact for customers, users, and stakeholders.
Help define the product team’s charter.
Define product initiative scope and establish clear evaluation criteria.
Partner with Portfolio Management for alignment of product priority and overall portfolio roadmap.
Depending on the phase of a product, the role will entail a combination of the above or more focus on certain responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related field and two (2) years experience in product management; OR five (5) years experience in product management; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of GIS ESRI suite of tools and how to apply them.
Experienced at collaborating with and leading agile cross-functional product teams and stakeholders to discover and deliver well-designed product solutions for customers.
Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of product management.
Knowledge of UX design, information architecture, user interface design, and user research.
Knowledge of various technologies and tools, including web technologies. Knowledge of agile software development methodologies.
Skill with in-depth analysis in interpreting data and formulating conclusions.
Skill in developing business cases and writing logical and complete functional and technical specifications and requirements.
Ability to organize and coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Skill in presentation and facilitation.
Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage software development life cycle from requirements to delivery, including new product versions and enhancements.
Ability to work well with a diverse team.
Ability to collaborate and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Skill in modeling empathy, compassion and emotional intelligence.
Skill in analyzing complex problems and utilizing critical thinking to solve issues and make decisions.
Skill in identifying, prioritizing, and scoping customer and organization needs.
Experience in driving entrepreneurial projects, starting new teams, and identifying opportunities for impact in crowded spaces.
Evidence of leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate high performing, dispersed teams through volatility, uncertainty, complexity, risk and ambiguity.
Evidence of entrepreneurial tendencies and ability to take something to market a significant plus.
Experience in helping foster a safe psychological space for all teammates where everyone can thrive.
Experience in stimulating changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
Experience in leading by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
