Sr R&D Engineer - Disposables
Job Summary This position involves supporting projects for the development of new products and championing product improvements in the medical disposables area. The single-use devices that our group is responsible for are 100% mechanical and most frequently made from engineering and commodity plastics. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership regarding the design, testing, and use of these devices. He/she must be willing and able to coordinate and communicate the efforts of R&D with Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Planning/Logistics, Packaging/Labeling and outside partners. Become a part of our dynamic team that supports a diverse set of product areas, including: safety needles & syringes, sharps containment, O.R. fluid management, & cardiothoracic drainage technologies. Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the full product development lifecyclefor new and improved single-use medical devices, with a focus on 100% mechanical designs utilizing engineering and commodity plastics.
- Provide technical leadership and expertisein the design, testing, and application of disposable medical devices, ensuring robust and innovative solutions.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration and communicationby effectively coordinating R&D efforts with key stakeholders including Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Planning/Logistics, Packaging/Labeling, and external partners.
- Manage and execute complex project tasks, ensuring adherence to established timelines, budgets, and quality standards, while proactively communicating status updates and potential risks to project teams and leadership.
- Ensure rigorous adherence to FDA/QSR Design Controlsand actively contribute to the comprehensive documentation within the Design History File (DHF) throughout all project phases.
- Design, develop, and execute robust product performance verification and validation activitiesto ensure devices meet specified requirements, regulatory standards, and user needs.
- Initiate, evaluate, and implement design and process changesfor existing products, ensuring seamless integration, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Develop innovative and practical solutionsto complex technical challenges related to product design, materials selection, and manufacturing processes for disposable medical devices.
- Support a diverse portfolio of product areas, including safety needles & syringes, sharps containment, OR fluid management, and cardiothoracic drainage technologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Plastics Engineering preferred
- Preferred Certifications: DFSS
- 2+ years of experience in medical product development or related field preferred
- Experience with Plastic product design/manufacturing is a plus
- Knowledge of Medical Device design controls
- Ability to work in 3-D CAD systems is a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Travel Expectations: Up to 10%
Anticipated salary range:$80,500 - $103,410
