A Brief Overview
The Workplace Investigator conducts thorough and impartial investigations into allegations of workplace misconduct at Stanford Health Care. Reporting to the Manager of Workplace Investigations, this role handles complex and sensitive matters while maintaining confidentiality, objectivity, and compliance with applicable standards and protocols throughout the investigative process.

What you will do

  • Plans and conducts comprehensive workplace investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, policy violations, and other misconduct in accordance with established protocols and legal requirements.

  • Develops investigation plans, conducts thorough interviews with complainants, respondents, and witnesses, and collects relevant documentation and evidence while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity.

  • Prepares formal investigation reports with factual chronologies, evidence summaries, credibility assessments, policy analysis, and well-reasoned findings that can withstand scrutiny and potential legal challenges.

  • Creates and maintains detailed case files, evidence logs, interview notes, and investigation documentation according to established standards and in alignment with organizational and legal requirements.

  • Identifies and flags potential legal issues that arise during investigations and works with the Manager of Workplace Investigations and Office of General Counsel to address complex or high-risk situations.

  • Collaborates with leaders, managers, and HR partners to identify root causes of workplace issues and provides recommendations for corrective action, process improvements, and preventative measures.

  • Tracks and monitors assigned cases to ensure timely completion according to established metrics and provides regular status updates to the Manager of Workplace Investigations.

  • Develops and delivers training for leaders and departments on complaint intake, documentation, retaliation prevention, respectful workplace expectations, and the organization's investigation process.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or Criminal Justice.


Experience Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in workplace investigations, employee relations, human resources, compliance investigations, or related field required.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting and/or unionized environment preferred.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of California employment laws and regulations related to workplace investigations and employee rights.

  • Demonstrated ability conducting sensitive workplace investigations involving discrimination, harassment, or other complex employee relations issues.

  • Strong interviewing skills with ability to establish rapport, ask effective questions, and maintain objectivity.

  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to evaluate evidence, assess credibility, and reach well-reasoned conclusions.

  • Superior documentation and report-writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to handle sensitive situations with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.

  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while adhering to established timelines and quality standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive information.

  • Effective communication skills for explaining process, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Professional certifications in workplace investigations, human resources (SHRM- CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR) preferred

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $66.52 - $88.14 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
