Description The Center for Educational Opportunity (CEO) office administers support programs that provide the opportunity to bright and high-achieving scholars from diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds to attend Pratt Institute in pursuit of an education in Art, Design, and Architecture.
Located on a historic 25-acre landscaped campus in the culturally diverse Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, Pratt is an internationally recognized school of art, design, architecture, information, and liberal arts and sciences, which attracts students from diverse cultural and geographic backgrounds. We are committed to developing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive community and shaping an environment for teaching, learning, research, creative and professional work that advances this vision.
College Support Programs Served: Arthur O. Eve Higher Educational Opportunity Program (HEOP): With substantial support from the New York State Department of Education, Pratt's HEOP program makes attending Pratt possible for New York State students whose economic and academic circumstances would otherwise preclude this path. Diverse Scholars Program (DSP): Pratt's DSP program is an institutional program that supports BIPOC scholarship recipients of donor or high institutional merit scholarships with activities and services to enhance the Pratt educational experience.
The Program Coordinator provides support and manages the overall operational functions of the department, and is an active contributor to the enhancement of support program services and student success.
Examples of Duties Administrative Duties and Responsibilities (Approx. 60% of time):
- Provides support on the day-to-day operation of the front office area by answering phones and providing customer services to college support program scholars and the campus community.
- Manages staff calendars, schedules meetings, makes room reservations, coordinates department events and programs and assists with special projects.
- Facilitates the administrative CEO admissions process by procuring prospective students' financial and academic documentation and coordinating student interviews.
- Strengthens departmental communications by leveraging social media presence to enhance communication and visibility of the department and its student success.
- Communicate with prospective students, current students, and external partners regarding college support program initiatives; participate in campus and admissions events to aid student recruitment and represent the college support programs and services.
- Foster and cultivate new and existing partnerships with key campus offices, such as Student Financial Services, Admissions, Registrar, Student Affairs, Provost, and other departments, to aid the student experience and overall operations.
- Supervise and train the division student leadership roles to support division goals and student professional growth; coordinate payroll and implement operational processes.
- Represent Pratt Institute's college support programs to external and internal audiences.
- Maintain student records and database, department expenses, and compile state reports.
- Advance the department vision, the institute's strategic plan, and inclusion initiatives through active committee participation and leadership on particular projects and implementation.
- Perform all related duties as assigned.
Student Support Duties and Responsibilities (Approx 40% of time):
- Student Engagement
- Administer program engagement assessments (tracking participation, student surveys, etc.) to support effective student development programming.
- Organize orientation events and other enrichment activities that enhance the student college experience and promote student engagement.
- Coordinate tailored workshops and collaborate with campus partners to support student development and leadership opportunities.
- Student Support
- Monitor student progress on caseload to aid students in adjusting to academic rigor, connect them to campus resources, and develop goals and plans for student success.
- Conduct student meetings to provide guidance and support in areas like time management, study habits, motivation, and well-being.
Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience, including providing work direction or acting as a liaison on a program or project.
Knowledge and Skills: Must have fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to understand office procedures and management systems; proficiency in MS Office; ability to operate standard office equipment. Demonstrates interest and ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment and student support services; can work independently and is self-directed; excellent time management skills and knowledge to prioritize work; attention to detail and problem-solving skills; and strong organizational and planning skills.
